Successful Adoption of MECAP in Four Albanian Municipalities

The Smart Energy Municipalities Project in Albania (SEMP), supported by the Swiss Government, has achieved a significant milestone. Four municipalities—Berat, Korçë, Përmet, and Shkodra—have successfully passed the Municipal Energy and Climate Action Plan (MECAP) at their municipal councils. This comprehensive plan aims to enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact in these regions.

Public Participation and Approval

The process involved extensive public participation, ensuring that the plans align with the needs and aspirations of the local communities. The public consultations were instrumental in gathering feedback and making necessary adjustments to the MECAP.

Future Outlook

The SEMP project, which runs since 2021, is coordinated by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (SECO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of the Republic of Albania. The project aims to establish an effective energy management framework at both municipal and national levels, providing energy-efficient public services to citizens.

Conclusion

The successful implementation of MECAP in these four municipalities is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the SEMP project and the local communities. This achievement marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future for Albania.
